Canada: Euthanasia

(reported by ARPA Australia)

Alarming statistics published in the Globe and Mail reveal 91 parents in Canada approached doctors in the last year to find out whether the country’s new euthanasia laws, euphemistically labeled ‘Medical Aid In Dying’, could be used for their newborn child. The Canadian Paediatric Surveillance Program, which surveyed 1050 pediatricians, found 118 physicians had “exploratory conversations” about ‘Medical Aid In Dying’ with a total of 419 parents. The survey also showed that 91 parents had made explicit ‘Medical Aid In Dying’ requests, nearly half of them for infants younger than one month.
