Persecution in Pakistan

Pakistan is one of the countries where Christians not only face persecution from the people around them: neighbours and the media, but also governments willfully ignore bullying against Christians and don’t protect them from attacks on their lives.

Voice of the Martyrs reports that five Christian families in rural Pakistan have gone nto hiding after death threats were made against an 18-year-old because of his alleged blasphemy against Islam. The police acknowledged that there was no evidence that this man had committed any crime and the accusation which was posted on a Facebook page is false.

In another situation, also reported by Voice of the Martyrs, a 17-year-old Christian girl has been sexually harassed and stalked for years by a Muslim man who threatened to throw acid on her. The girl even stopped attending school because of this and became depressed.  During all these years, the police allegedly failed to deal with the man despite his threats.

In a third report, Voice of the Martyrs reports that a 17-year-old Christian student was murdered by a Muslim classmate in August. His father claims that the police are ignoring the anti-Christian bullying taking place at the school. Other Christians are afraid to speak up about bullying, because the government doesn’t offer any protection and they fear for their lives and that of their families and children who go to that school.
