Meditation: Exodus 34 & Psalm 100

Reading: Exodus 34:5-7 and Psalm 100

We have studied the name and seven attributes of God. He is merciful, gracious, longsuffering, good, truth, forgiving and just. How we should respond to this revelation? God also teaches us this. For example, Psalm 100 “Make a joyful shout to the LORD, all you lands! Serve the LORD with gladness; come before His presence with singing…For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endures to all generations.”

Psalm 103:1-2 and 8-10 “Bless the LORD, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits … The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in mercy. He will not always strive with us, nor will He keep His anger forever. He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor punished us according to our iniquities.”

Psalm 111:1, 4 and 5 “Praise the LORD! I will praise the LORD with my whole heart, in the assembly of the upright and in the congregation… He has made His wonderful works to be remembered; the LORD is gracious and full of compassion…He will ever be mindful of His covenant.”

Psalm 30:4,5 “Sing praise to the LORD, you saints of His, and give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name. For His anger is but for a moment, His favour is for life”.

Psalm 7:17 says God is just (or righteous) “I will praise the LORD according to His righteousness, and will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High.”

God’s wonderful attributes are a very necessary and valuable subject for our thankfulness in prayer, our singing, our meditation and conversations. Let’s encourage each other to use them in these ways, both in our homes and together as congregation (Psalm 111). God will receive greater glory and our faith will be strengthened.

Question: How do you respond to the revelation of God’s wonderful name and attributes?
