‘Judge and jury fake news’

The one US politician after the other is being accused of sexual misconduct in the recent or more often not so recent past. It is remarkable that many of those accusations have not been brought to the police first to be investigated, but are thrown out into the open, to do as much damage as possible, before the accused can defend himself. That makes one wonder whether we have come to a situation in which people conveniently try to destroy their political opponent by producing some false accusations.

Recently, Republican senator Roy Moore of Alabama was defeated in an election by his democratic opponent, after he was accused of sexual misconduct. He maintains that those accusations are false. They have not been proven in court (yet). Nevertheless, he was defeated in a race which he would certainly have won if the accusation had not surfaced. What is the truth here? Is this fake news or is this accusation true? We don’t know, but the public has already rendered ‘justice’. In our justice system the rule is ‘innocent until proven guilty’, but in the public media it is the opposite. That is the power of false accusations.

A more dramatic proof of the power of ‘mob justice’ is a Kentucky politician, Dan Johnson, who being accused of sexual misconduct in 2013, denied the accusations, but could not handle the shame and took his own life. The charges were investigated by the police in 2013 but the case was closed without filing charges.

Johnson sponsored a number of bills having to do with religious liberty and teaching the Bible in public schools. It was on Monday that the Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting published an account from a woman saying Johnson sexually assaulted her in the basement of his home in 2013, even though the police had already investigated the matter and did not file charges.

In a note, Johnson wrote that the accusations are false ‘God and only God knows the truth, nothing is the way they make it out to be. AMERICA will not survive this type of judge and jury fake news. Conservatives take a stand. I LOVE GOD and I LOVE MY WIFE, who is the best WIFE in the world …’
